If you have ever met Anne Masters Barmer, you know she is a true animal lover. She started out as a horse person (and very much still is) around the age of six. She began riding horses with her aunt and fell in love with everything about riding and horses.
Anne ran her own riding lessons business for about 15 years. She loved teaching. An unfortunate accident affected her knee, ended her business and impacted her life for a while. Now, Anne is back with a passion, and she has a new business…. and of course it involves animals. You can’t keep her away from her joy.
A. Masters’ Mobile Pet Salon (Masters' Mobile for short) was launched on August 1. Less than two months into opening and she is busy. But, she is happy about that. She says she lived her dream with her horse business; but isn’t done with animal and pet care. She feels she has a new purpose, and that purpose is all about the health of pets as they are being groomed.
Anne believes in treating others as she wants to be treated. Therefore, she feels it’s vital for pet health to inform their owners of proper grooming. Being around animals all of her life, she is very comfortable in that environment. Still, she trains and is in the process of being certified for her new role, so that she can deliver the best knowledge and care to her clients.
“People don’t realize the level of grooming needed for their pets”, she stated during our conversation. “It’s about cleaning for health, the skin and proper trimming of nails and hair”. Her mobile grooming service is setup with top-notch equipment, such as a premium system for cleaning underneath the hair to get rid of the loose hair.
Anne’s goal is to “clean all the dogs in Nash County”. She laughs as she says it, but she’s still serious. It’s not just dogs though, since she is open to grooming several kinds of animals such as:
Wait, what? Chickens?
Well, she has been asked about chickens, and humorously replied that she would groom them too if they wouldn’t peck her. But, she does have a no cats rule that she sticks by.
I asked if she has any favorites, she says not really, they are all special. But, she does enjoy bathing big dogs such as Labs and Golden Retrievers because they are genuinely happy to get bathed. And she likes the challenge and fun of cutting smaller breeds such as Poodles and Schnauzers because of the precision it takes to get it right.
Within all the good and positivity her business brings her, she admits things do become serious at times. She had a dog that was so matted it made her cry. However, she did the job and spoke with the client to help inform of why that was so bad for the dog. Now, things are back on a positive course.
